OVERVIEW OF THE WORLD
ELECTRONIC CONNECTOR MARKET
In 2014,
connector industry’s sales increased +8.1%. The Chinese region exhibited the
greatest growth, with a year-over-year sales increase of +14.5%, followed by
North America with a year-over-year increase of +7.8% and Asia Pacific with a
year-over-year increase of +7.0%. The ROW region had the lowest growth, only
achieving a year-over-year sales increase of 0.4%.
REGIONAL SUMMARY
As the tables below indicate, the strong positive growth in 2014 increased the past 5-year compound annual growth from 1.3% in 2013, to 8.1% in 2014. Unfortunately this growth though was not strong enough to increase the past 10-year or 20-year CAGR.
END-USE EQUIPMENT SECTORS
Automotive was the largest end-use equipment sector for electronic connector products, with 2014 shipments of $11,730.5 million and is anticipated to maintain this position in 2015. Connectors utilized in the automotive sector accounted for 22.2% of all connectors manufactured in 2014. Connectors used in the telecom/datacom sector followed behind automotive, with 20.4% percent of the total market.
